February 8, 2009

Hello to the members of The Lower Class Revolt!

We’ve got a lot going on so lets get right to it!

Coming up on Friday February 13th, 2009 is the best four band bill of the weekend: Raised by Robots, Evacuee, Buildings Breeding and Landmine Lullaby will be taking over the Retox Lounge in San Francisco for a night of outstanding guitar driven rock. Four bands, five bucks—can you beat it? Yes, we’re keeping your budget in mind in these less than stellar economic times!

The fun keeps rolling! We’re hosting our first ever Noise Pop Happy Hour on February 25th at Bender’s in San Francisco. This is a FREE event taking place between 5pm-8pm. The Aimless Never Miss, The Sleepover Disaster and Evacuee will be supplying the entertainment and it’s up to you to supply the chatter and non industry related talk! This event is always a great way to meet up early and kick off the night’s events.

Later that evening… We’re taking it to the next level at The Knockout with yet another dose of sensibly made guitar driven rock courtesy of My First Earthquake, Raised by Robots and Bears! Bears! Bears! This is our first show with My First Earthquake and we’re super stoked to have them as a new LCR friend! Show starts at 9:30 pm and we’re charging the usual extravagant of $5 fee to get in!

We’ve got ONE spot left on Volume #4 of The Lower Class Revolt compilation due out in May. Get that music in!

Congrats to compilation Volume #3 participant Andy Fosberry, better known as Brighton UK’s Ironlight River, on the completion of his new album. We’ll keep you posted as he gets closer to release.

RIP: Lux Interior. In 1982 my life was changed in a venue called the Oasis Ballroom in Sacramento, affectionately known back then as Excremento. My good friend Pete Beck and I took his mid 60’s station wagon down from Chico where we were attending college and working at KCSC (R.I.P.) to see the Cramps on some tickets we scammed through the radio station. Nice one! On this particular night they were in top form—right down to having Kid Congo from the Gun Club on guitar and Lux being reeled back in after one of his crowd surfing episodes by the mic that was in his mouth. Probably one of the biggest “alternative” acts in the world at the time–and here they were in this shithole playing to a bunch of punks and some stupid-ass jarheads who didn’t know any better. My lasting memory? Drummer Nick Knox. I vowed to buy a drum kit after that show because I was impressed (convinced?) that simplicity could carry the weight of an entire band. What can be said about a good gig played in front of some impressionable kids? A year later Pete and I were onstage with the first version of 28th Day—which given our financial status at the time, was no small wonder. Even though I tired of the later incarnations of The Cramps, I was still very saddened by the news of the passing of Lux. To his credit he stuck it out to the end, through the best and the worst of times instead of copping out like that drug addled loser Cobain. Required listening: “Psychedelic Jungle” (IRS Records).

We’ll probably end up releasing it early just because the sheer anticipation might be too much! We’re pretty happy the holidays are over. This year in particular was a very trying time with the economy the way it is, the depressed nature of the majority of the people, all of it just blew. We’re just so very thankful that we were able to bury ourselves in the music that motivates our daily existence and alleviate some of the misery. We’re very encouraged by the scene that swims around us and we’re thankful that it is here! We look forward to bumping into everybody far and near in the coming months.
Take care,

It’s only $5 bucks to get in we’re starting this thing at 9pm. We’d suggest an early arrival!

And speaking of the compilation–the line-up is set! Silian Rail, Built For The Sea, Rademacher, My First Earthquake,The Happy Hollows, Metabear, James and Evander, Shiloe, and Ironlight River. We’re super pleased, as always with the line-up this time around, can’t wait to have it blasting out of your portable music devices soon!

We’ve been digging through crates of used vinyl again. The two best finds so far? Canada’s best band of the 80s, 54:40 and their first self titled release featuring “baby ran” (WEA, 1986), —made back in the day when major labels had money to give to bands to record. We also found a mint condition copy of Marshall Crenshaw’s self titled first release (WEA, 1982). “Some Day, Some Way”—covered by a million artists but never as good as this original version.

Say hello the next chance you get!

Hello and happy October to those of The Lower Class Revolt! We have a few updates and a couple of points of interest to point out this time around. Please remember to mark your calendar for October 29th! Light FM will be celebrating their debut release “Black Magic Marker” out on Devil in the Woods as part of our live music night at The Knockout. Appearing with Light FM will be the amazing Rademacher and a band you need to know more about–Raised by Robots. Everything will start at 9:30pm—hope to see you there!

And speaking of our label Devil in the Woods, we’ve launched a newly designed website. You can check it out at www.devilinthewoodsrecords.com

We’ve got two spots left for Volume#3 of our compilation series set for January 29th. The deadline for submissions is November 1st so get your songs in now!

And finally we’d like to thank all those involved with the Hardly Strictly Festival for making it special for us (again) this year. We had a wonderful time hanging out with way too many people in the beautiful setting of Golden Gate park. There are so many things that make San Francisco special, and this is surely one them. One small suggestion though—we’re pretty convinced that a “donation” for a $10 ticket with the money going to a designated charity would be a wonderful idea. We appreciate the free admission concept but every year we are blown away by the increasing number of assholes who show up because it’s “free” and have absolutely no concept that maybe some of us are there to see the music.

Thank you for your continued and overwhelming support—the bands truly appreciate it!
